López Immersive Sound
In Francisco Lopez’s concerts, the audience, sitting backwards in concentric circles with eyes blindfolded (or with eyes closed), is exposed to an intense and captivating experience. Based on field recordings made in different locations (The Amazon, South Africa, etc.), he proposes a place of profound listening by building fascinating sound architectures in which sounds, as he explains, "are born and die in seconds; they have an ephemeral, virtual and intangible life; They are flowing, non-repetitive ... They easily surpass any possible status as meaningful or conveyors, by becoming beings. Intangible beings, who can not be trapped; Ghosts of themselves. Creatures that blend into our perception and travel deep into our innermost being, with a precious cargo of confused beauty, passion, tranquility, horror and other vital elements”
Francisco López is internationally recognized as one of the main figures in the realm of sound art and experimental music. His experience in the field of sound creation and work with environmental recordings covers a period of almost forty years, during which he has developed an impressive sound universe that is completely personal and iconoclastic, and based on a profound listening to the world. He has realized hundreds of concerts/performances, sound installations and projects with field recordings in over seventy countries, including the main concert halls, museums, galleries and international festivals. His extensive catalogue of sound pieces (with collaborations with hundreds of artists) has been released by nearly 400 recording labels / publishers worldwide. He has been awarded four times with honorary mentions at the prestigious Prix Ars Electronica Festival (Austria) and is the recipient of the Qwartz Award 2010 (France) for best sound anthology.
