What is in the image when the image does not look like it should? How do the disciplines act when the limits of their territories are disfigured? How do you edit work materials starting from an open process without reducing them to finished forms? These questions and many others will be discussed in this sharing of ideas that revolves around sound as ethnography.
It has only been in recent years that some disciplines, such as anthropology, have ceased to be “deaf” in order to include sound among both their “objects” of study and among the tools used to generate and transmit knowledge. Based on the research conducted by Miguel Alonso on sound identity, and the experience of Xabier Erkizia within the scope of the relationship between listening and culture, we will dig deep into the Dorsal Landscape Project. In this project, Nader Koochaki, artist and sociologist, documents the sound of flocks in the province of Gipuzkoa. Considering that this work was developed struggling against some resistance to the retinal pleasure offered by images, and bearing in mind that the sound phenomenon of the flocks is mainly a kinetic experience, Dorsal Landscape presents itself as a mediator of study and hybrid knowledge able to bridge different groups, including film and sound.
